Edo Decides: INEC Extends Voting Time in Affected Areas

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension of voting time in areas where the electoral process commenced late.

In a press release signed by Mohammed Haruna, National Commissioner and Member, Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC stated that its situation room in Abuja is closely monitoring the ongoing governorship election in Edo State.

While reporting early commencement of polls in many polling units, INEC noted instances of late starts in some locations. To prevent disenfranchisement, the commission reiterated its regulation that voting will continue until the last voter on the queue, who arrived by 2:30 pm, has cast their ballot.

To ensure smooth operations, INEC’s Edo State office has been directed to provide adequate power supply from backup generators in affected polling units or ward collation centers.
