The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate for 2023, Atiku Abubakar, has said military personnel who authorize the use of lethal force against peaceful civilian protesters will be held accountable for committing crimes against humanity, even after their retirement.

Atiku’s statement comes amid growing concerns about the military’s response to civilian protests in the country. Reports have that since the protest around a dozen have been killed and many injured.

In a statement posted on his X handle @atiku, Atiku said “The constitutional right to engage in protest is firmly established within our supreme law and reinforced by the judiciary,”

“It is the solemn duty of the government and security agencies to ensure a safe and protected environment for individuals exercising their right to peaceful protest.” He added.
