The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has debunked reports that former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello is in its custody.
In a press statement signed by Dele Oyewale, Head, Media and Publicity the EFCC declared that Bello is not being held by the commission against recent report that the former Kogi State governor, reported to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja alongside his successor, Usman Ododo.
The clarification comes amidst allegations of N80.2 billion money laundering charges against Bello, who was previously declared wanted by the commission.
“Bello, already declared wanted by the Commission for alleged N80.2 billion money laundering charges, remains wanted with a subsisting warrant for his arrest,” the statement confirms.
According to the statement, a subsisting warrant for Bello’s arrest remains in place.
“The Commission wishes to state that Bello is not in its custody,” the statement read.
This development is the latest in the ongoing saga surrounding Bello’s alleged financial misconduct during his tenure as governor of Kogi State.
