Senator Shehu Sani, one time representative of Kaduna Central, has stated that landlords are using fuel prices as a justification for increasing house rent.
He made this statement on his Twitter handle, @ShehuSani, saying, “Earlier this year, landlords increased their rent rates due to the dollar, now they are increasing it because of petrol, and next, it will be because of VAT.”
Nigerians have taken to social media to react to the senator’s statement. @SabinaNkiru said, “Do you know how it feels when the monthly rent for your property cannot even make a comfortable pot of soup? It’s not easy on any side.”
@KayodeAbraham12 noted, “Housing is for business, not just an inheritance.”
@kawunkankanaty explained, “This is not an uncommon occurrence, as landlords often adjust rent based on changes in the cost of living, inflation, and other economic conditions. The dollar, petrol, and VAT are all factors that can influence rent prices.”
@PrinceAbs pointed out, “Some landlords depend on tenants to survive, so they have to increase the price of their commodity.”
