The ongoing petrol scarcity and skyrocketing prices have sparked widespread outrage among Nigerians, with many calling for the removal of Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Kyari, who has held the position since 2019, now holds the record for the longest tenure in the role.
Social media platforms are filled with demands for Kyari’s sack, with @arapate stating, “I think he needs to go. It’s highly embarrassing.” @Onsubgu echoed similar sentiments, saying, “Sack Mele Kyari now!”
Others, like @Vian337, took a sarcastic approach, saying, “Sack fire, Mele Kyari till 2037. You dey ment.” @otakerioghenero, however, follow suit, “Sack who? We sack nobody, man. We are all in this together. First to tire na lazy boy.”
Some users shifted the focus to President Tinubu, who doubles as the Minister of Petroleum.
One of the users @Lanko_C pointed out said “Tinubu is the Petroleum Minister,” prompting @DestinyJul43113 to suggest, “The minister should be sacked first.” @jobnaldo simply expressed, “I no like that man.”
The widespread discontent highlights the growing frustration among Nigerians over the persistent petrol scarcity and high prices, with many holding Kyari and President Tinubu responsible for the crisis.
